Information Technology
Who We Are
Information Technology, a section of the Office of the Treasurer, is a service unit of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America that is responsible for the digital interconnectedness of the ELCA at large. We are not the most visible unit of the ELCA but we are integral to the mission of the church in many ways. A denomination of more than 4.7 million members in sixty-five synods and more than 10,000 congregations as well as numerous constituent partners in ministry maintains and generates a great deal of data. It is the primary responsibility of the Information Technology unit to make sure that the data and information which allows this church to do its work in the world is both secure and accessible.
What We Do
The people who work in the Information Technology unit are those who are responsible for the myriad physical communication networks of the ELCA. From telephones and individual computers at each person’s desk, to network interfaces and computer servers which access the Internet connections to the world; tools which support the work and ministry of the ELCA, are maintained by the staff of Information Technology. In addition to the people who support the physical machines and networks, a staff of programmers maintains, creates, modifies and develops applications used by churchwide staff, synods, congregations and individuals.
