At least 12 fires, fueled by high winds and extremely low humidity, raged across California this fall. Tens of thousands of people were under evacuation orders, and more than 350 structures were destroyed. Nearly one million people have also faced rolling power outages designed to prevent more fires.
Lutheran Disaster Response will work with Lutheran Social Services of Southern California, Lutheran Social Services of Northern California and the three California synods to respond to the fires. We’re assessing the situation to determine the best ways to respond. We expect immediate needs to include food and other life necessities, as well as emotional and spiritual care for those who have been traumatized by the fires.
Gifts to "U.S. Wildfires" will be used in full (100%) to assist those affected by wildfires until the response is complete.
