The Deaconess Community consists of theologically trained, professionally prepared women, called to ministry and service by congregations and synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada.

The Deaconess Community celebrated 125 years of Word and Service ministry on July 18-19 in Atlanta, GA. Our deaconesses were instrumental in founding many Lutheran hospitals, congregations, and social ministry organizations. [more]
