The Deaconess Community
of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
The Deaconess Community consists of theologically trained, professionally prepared women, called to ministry and service by congregations and synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada.
The Deaconess Community will celebrate 125 years of Word and Service ministry this July in Atlanta, GA. Our deaconesses were instrumental in founding many Lutheran hospitals, congregations, and social ministry organizations.
Today, we continue our important work through a variety of professions and a wide range settings.
