Lutheran World Federation Nairobi Statement on Worship and Culture

Contemporary Challenges and Opportunities

Sensing the growing importance of the relationship between worship and culture, the Lutheran World Federation in October 1993 brought together a study team of about 20 people from five continents to define and describe the ongoing dialogue, to devise methods for initiating such a dialogue, and to foster its implementation across the world.  Assisted by two noted experts in this field, Gordon Lathrop and Anscar Chapungco, the team met in Hong Kong in March of 1994, and in Nairobi, in January of 1996.

The Nairobi Statement on Worship and Culture is an important document that emerged from this work.
