Hunger Jeopardy
Test your knowledge about world hunger!
This fun and interactive activity is designed to educate Lutherans and others about ELCA World Hunger and its work. When information is given in a fun atmosphere, it is more likely to be retained. This, however, is not intended to make light of or underscore the seriousness of world hunger. Armed with knowledge and awareness, the hope is that participants will leave with a better understanding that there are people who are hungry in God’s world and there are ways we can support them.
This game works well with teenagers, adults, or both (as an intergenerational activity). Perhaps your group/congregation will consider raising money for a donation to the ELCA World Hunger Appeal equal to the winning team’s score!
DOWNLOAD THE GAME (PowerPoint): You need Microsoft PowerPoint to play "Hunger Jeopardy." Most users can hit F5 to play upon opening the document in PowerPoint. It is recommended to open and play the game in PowerPoint instead of in an Internet browser.

Playing the game:
The game is played the same way as Jeopardy on television. Divide players into two or three teams. Without the use of buzzers (unless you are creative and can come up with a buzzer system that is fair for all), you will need to determine the order of play and have teams take turns, making sure all teams receive the same number of questions. Keep track of each team's score as they come up with the right answers. A chalk or marker board (or easel with paper) is helpful for keeping score.
NOTE: Depending on the group's level of expertise in world hunger, you may wish to add additional parameters to the game, such as (for dollar-amount or quantity questions) a "correct" answer, if not exact, can be within X dollars or X number of the actual answer. This game is designed as much to educate people as to entertain and test knowledge of world hunger. Feel free to award second-place prize(s) to the team(s) with the lower score(s).
If your group learns something from this game and then actively does something for people who are hungry (makes a donation or does a service project in your community), then the real winners are people whose lives you affect by doing so.
