Disease and Hunger Connections

use the pre-designed learning experience, or
choose from several activities to create a custom learning experience built especially for your gathering.
Part 1 Part 2
Pop Quiz! Disease and Hunger: Intersections
This activity will define hunger and malnutrition and demonstrate their impact on health.
Disease and Hunger Memory
This activity will introduce participants to five specific diseases that particularly afflict those who are poor and explore the relationship between disease and hunger.
Defending God’s Children
This activity will demonstrate the link between multiple factors and disease susceptibility, and introduce the discussion of disease as it relates to hunger.
HIV and AIDS Case Studies
These stories from around the world will help participants better understand the entire impact of the disease on a person’s life.
Dicey Diarrhea
This activity will help participants better understand situations that lead to diarrheal episodes while exploring the causes and the effects of this preventable disease.
Malaria Tag
This high energy activity demonstrates how disease leads to increased nutritional needs and decreased energy levels and how hunger leads to undernourishment, making treatments for disease ineffective. Participants will see that poverty and power play a role in how people experience disease.
This module summarizes the key learning points and gives concrete actions your congregation or group can take to combat hunger and disease in the world.
