The ELCA is one of the largest Christian denominations in the United States, with 4.2 million members in 10,000 congregations across the 50 states and in the Caribbean region. Known as the church of "God's work. Our hands." the ELCA emphasizes the saving grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ, unity among Christians and service in the world.
The churchwide organization functions interdependently with synods and congregations to carry out the ministries of this church, guided by the Churchwide Assembly, the Church Council and the four elected officers of this church. Churchwide organization staff who work at the Lutheran Center and in other locations serve as administrators, advisors, conveners and resource people for this church and its ministries. Each ministry shares a common goal to advance the mission of the ELCA.
