Lutheran to Direct Church Women United

HURTY APPOINTED DIRECTOR OF CHURCH WOMEN UNITED

Church Women United (CWU) National President Susan Shank Mix
announced Jan. 6 the appointment of Dr. Kathleen Segerhammar Hurty
as CWU?s general director, effective May 15. Mix described Hurty as "a
warm, intelligent, artistic person who infuses you with her energy and
caring. Kathleen will help CWU expand our networks and enrich our
lives together." Hurty, a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in
America (ELCA), brings a strong background in ecumenical,
administrative and teaching ministries as well as a long-standing
relationship with Church Women United. On March 30 Hurty concludes
her work as director for Ecumenical Networks with the National Council
of Churches of Christ in the USA. Prior to joining the NCC in 1986, she
served as a teacher and principal in various California school districts.
Hurty is a graduate of the ELCA?s Bethany College, Lindsborg, Kan., and
holds several advanced degrees in education and administration from the
University of California at Berkeley.
