Relief & Development
This ELCA work responds to build resilience to hunger, violence, and disaster, meeting needs while addressing root injustice so neighbors thrive today and tomorrow.

Building Resilient Communities
ELCA WorldHunger works through Lutheran congregations and churches in the U.S. and worldwide, as well as trusted partners, to continue to respond to hunger, poverty, and the systems that create it “until all are fed.”
Lutheran Disaster Response (LDR) is our ministry response to disasters, offering help and hope locally and globally. Through invitation, we stay -- often for years -- accompanying companions through the long journey to recovery.
AMMPARO (Accompanying Migrants with Protection, Advocacy, Representation and Opportunities) is a holistic ELCA commitment to accompany vulnerable migrants and all who are forcibly displaced.
Our Approach to Relief and Development
The accompaniment model is walking together in solidarity, practicing interdependence and mutuality. In all of our relief and disaster work, we come alongside to learn, grow, and share the gifts that God has given us together.
ELCA World Hunger supports projects, such as climate-smart agriculture, to increase yields and better prepare communities to withstand disasters. When those same communities experience a setback due to a catastrophe, LDR assists in response, recovery, and mitigation to ensure long-term resilience.
The ELCA has long served where needs are greatest. Answering God’s call means staying attentive to complex, changing realities and providing both immediate relief and long-term support for our siblings and the communities they call home.
