VAALER IS INTERIM HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR
Thomas P. Vaaler, Woodbury, Minn., will serve as interim
director of the Department for Human Resources and
Management Services of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in
America, according to the Rev. Robert N. Bacher, ELCA
executive for administration. Vaaler will begin work at the
ELCA Churchwide Offices in Chicago April 10. The Rev.
A.C. "Chris" Stein held the position from 1987 until his
resignation in February. Vaaler, who is retired, was human
resources director in the Life Services Section of the 3M
Company, St. Paul, Minn. He has more than 30 years of
experience in the area of human resources, both domestic
and international. Bacher said Vaaler will serve until a
permanent director is nominated by the presiding bishop and
elected by the ELCA Church Council, probably in August. A
search committee will be appointed soon, Bacher said.
Vaaler is a graduate of Luther College, Decorah, Iowa, and a
member of Woodbury Lutheran Church, Woodbury, Minn.
