ELCA SEEKS HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR

Thomas P. Vaaler will continue to serve as interim director of the
Department for Human Resources of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in
America, according to the Rev. Robert N. Bacher, ELCA executive for
administration. In August the ELCA Church Council elected Aaron
Dean, a mental health counselor from Seattle, as the new Director for
Human Resources. Dean declined the position for personal reasons.
Vaaler, who is retired, was human resources director in the Life
Services Section of the 3M Company, St. Paul, Minn. Bacher said, "The
process for selecting a new director for human resources is under way.
A search committee will receive applications until Oct. 24. The goal
is to have the presiding bishop nominate a person to the Church
Council for election at its Nov. 13-16 meeting.
