UNGLAUBE MOVES TO CARTHAGE
Dr. James M. Unglaube, director for colleges and
universities for the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, has
accepted the position of
director for planned giving at Carthage College,
Kenosha, Wis., effective
Dec. 15. "I have been blessed with 20 wonderful
years of service for the
Lutheran church and the ELCA's ministry in higher
education," said
Unglaube. "When I began churchwide work in 1977 I
anticipated one day
returning to one of our ELCA college campuses.
Carthage College is ... my
alma mater, so this opportunity has special
meaning," he said. Carthage is
one of 28 colleges and universities of the ELCA.
From 1977 to 1982,
Unglaube directed the department for higher
education of the Lutheran
Church in America, a former Lutheran church body.
He taught chemistry at
Lenoir-Rhyne College, Hickory, N.C., from 1967 to
1977. Lenoir-Rhyne
College is associated with the ELCA. In 1966 he
completed his master's
degree in organic chemistry and earned his
doctorate in physical chemistry
in 1968 at the University of Iowa. Unglaube
earned an A.B. degree in
chemistry from Carthage in 1963. "In the area of
higher education and
schools, we lose a leader of significance in the
field of education,
especially education related to the church," said
the Rev. W. Robert
Sorensen, ELCA director for higher education and
schools.
