CHICAGO (ELCA) -- The Church Council of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) filled a number of vacancies on boards and committees when it met here Nov. 13-16. It also named the members of two committees to serve the ELCA Churchwide Assembly August 16-22, 1999, in Denver.
The council is the ELCA's board of directors and serves as the legislative authority of the church between churchwide assemblies, which are held every other year.
DIVISION FOR GLOBAL MISSION, BOARD
Terfassa Yadessa, St. Paul, Minn., was elected to complete the term (until 1999) left by the resignation of Mark L. Monono, Omaha, Neb.
PUBLISHING HOUSE OF THE ELCA, BOARD
Fred J. Korge, Houston, was elected to complete the term (until 2001) left by the resignation of Dr. Jonathan C. Messerli, Kutztown, Pa.
DEPARTMENT FOR COMMUNICATION, ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Mary Butler, Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., was elected to complete the term (until 2001) left by the death of Gloria L. Jensen, Fargo, N.D.
