Concordia Christmas Concert on Odyssey, Satellite Systems

December 1, 1999

CHICAGO (ELCA) -- The Concordia College Christmas concert, "Let Heaven and Nature Sing," will make an encore appearance on a national cable television network and satellite systems this holiday season.
The concert will be broadcast on the Odyssey Network, a national interfaith cable network available to more than 30 million homes through 1,500 cable systems, the Primestar direct-to-home satellite (Channel 84) service and to individual satellite dish owners.
Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn., is one of 28 colleges and universities of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). The National Interfaith Cable Coalition (NICC), one of Odyssey Network's owners, is a not-for-profit corporation representing more than 80 faith groups including the ELCA.
The Concordia College production combines the talents of 450 student musicians and is the third in a Gabriel Award-winning series of Concordia College Christmas Concert videos.
The concert features a 320-voice choir, a handbell choir and full symphony orchestra, directed by Dr. Rene Clausen, musical director. Clausen is recognized as one of the nation's top choral music conductors and composers. The concert features several contemporary choral pieces as well as arrangements of traditional Christmas favorites such as "All Creatures of Our God and King," "Silent Night" and "Joy to The World." The one-hour program is staged in front of a dramatic 154-foot-wide mural created by liturgical artist and 1969 Concordia College graduate David Hetland.
Scheduled broadcast times are 2 a.m. EST, Dec. 23; 6 a.m. EST, Dec. 25; and 11 p.m. EST, Dec. 26. Check local listings for exact broadcast times.
For those who do not receive the Odyssey Network on their cable systems, the channel can be found on satellite at SATCOM C3, transponder = 5.
