'Mosaic' Fall 2000 Edition Focuses on ELCA Ministries in Bangladesh

August 18, 2000

CHICAGO (ELCA) -- The fall 2000 edition of MOSAIC, the video magazine of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), will focus on ELCA-sponsored health care ministries and economic development in Bangladesh. The edition's theme is "Being Christ in Bangladesh."
MOSAIC, available Sept. 1, will feature three eight-minute segments on Bangladesh.
+ "My Bangladesh: A Boy Looks at His Nation" -- Nine-year-old Rockibul Hussain offers insight into Bangladesh's rivers, farms, cities and people.
+ "The Incredible Hunger-fighting Silkworm" -- This segment features the Rangpur Dinajpur Rural Service (RDRS), a program funded by the ELCA World Hunger Appeal. RDRS has introduced "sericulture," an ancient Chinese art of silk worm production, to the women in Bangladesh. Women are producing silk thread in home-based and small factory settings. They are also learning to produce silk cloth and garments to be sold for a profit. With their earnings, women are able to provide for their families.
+ "Lighting Her Lamp: Hope for Bangladesh" -- This segment features Lutheran Health Care Bangladesh, an ELCA-funded health care and development project that aims to make more visible the important roles women play in developing societies. This segment shows the roles women are providing in a patriarchal society.
MOSAIC is produced by the ELCA Department for Communication. It is intended for educational use in a variety of congregational settings including Sunday School classes, adult forums, youth groups, women's and men's groups, new member classes, church council meetings, committee meetings and other organizational meetings. Each issue includes a user's guide with a synopsis of each segment and discussion questions. MOSAIC is issued quarterly. Annual subscriptions are available through the ELCA Department for Communication.
