Worship Services to Be Held Daily at 2001 Churchwide Assembly

CHICAGO (ELCA) -- Services of Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at the churchwide assembly of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), Aug. 8-14, in Indianapolis.
At the opening service, Wednesday, Aug. 8, 4:30 p.m., the Rev. H. George Anderson, presiding bishop of the ELCA, will preside and the Rev. Susan R Briehl, Spokane, Wash., will preach. The service will feature a choir of congregations representing the ELCA=20 Indiana-Kentucky Synod.
The presiding bishop-elect of the ELCA, who will be elected during the assembly, will preside at the Holy Eucharist, Monday, Aug. 13, 7:30 p.m. Anderson will preach. The praise band, Table 4 Twelve, Hebron Lutheran Church, Hebron, Ky., and the Lutheran Music Program will be featured.
Other services are:
+Thursday, Aug. 9, 7:30 p.m. The Rev. Patricia Garner, a pastor with the Moravian Church in America, Winston-Salem, N.C., will preside; Dr. Jon Moline, president of Texas Lutheran University, Seguin, Texas, will preach. A churchwide assembly choir will sing. Music before the service will be provided by David Michael Carillo, Gentle Wind Music, Indianapolis.
+ Friday, Aug.10, 5:30 p.m. The Rev. Andrew J. Yee, Bellingham, Wash., will preside; the Rev. Donna M. Wright, Omaha, Neb., will preach. A youth choir from Trinity English Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne, Ind., will sing.
+Saturday, Aug. 11, 5:30 p.m. The Rev. Francisco L. Sosa, bishop of the ELCA Caribbean Synod, Dorado, Puerto Rico, will preside; the Rev. Ann Svennungsen, Moorhead, Minn., will preach. The Lutheran Summer Music Assembly Choir, made up of voting members and visitors, will sing. Music will be provided by musicians from Lutheran Summer Music. This service will feature a bilingual liturgy in Spanish and English.
+ Sunday, Aug. 12, 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Margaret G. Payne, bishop of the ELCA New England Synod, Worcester, Mass., will preside; the Rev. Clifton Kirkpatrick, stated clerk of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), will preach. The New City Parish Gospel Choir, Los Angeles, will sing. Music will be provided by the Lutheran Summer Music Instrumentalists.
The Rev. Jan O. Flaaten, Phoenix, will preside and the Rev. O. Dennis Mims, East Cleveland, Ohio, will preach for a Service of the Word on the final day of the assembly, Tuesday, Aug. 14. --
