Fall 2001 MOSAIC Focuses on Africa, 'Stand with Africa' Campaign

August 27, 2001

CHICAGO (ELCA) -- MOSAIC, the video magazine of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), focuses on the church in Africa in the fall 2001 issue. MOSAIC topics include the spread of Christianity in Africa, the AIDS crisis and a campaign to focus support for African churches and communities.
The fall issue of the video magazine is available to congregations Sept. 1. There are three segments:
+ "Africans: The Real Church Growth Experts" examines how some African churches are spreading the gospel, resulting in phenomenal growth in congregations. This segment features congregations in the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania.
+ "From Coffins to Hope: AIDS in Africa" explores how some Africans are facing the AIDS crisis that has devastated parts of the continent. How Lutheran churches in Senegal, Ethiopia and Tanzania address the AIDS crisis are also featured.
+ "Stand with Africa," a Lutheran campaign to bring attention to and support for African churches, is featured in a promotional video segment. The three-year campaign focuses on HIV/AIDS, food security, and peace and reconciliation. It is coordinated by the ELCA World Hunger Program, Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS) World Relief, and Lutheran World Relief, the overseas relief and development agency of the ELCA and LCMS.
MOSAIC is produced and distributed by the ELCA Department for Communication. It is intended for educational use in a variety of congregational settings including Sunday School classes, adult forums, youth groups, women's and men's groups, new member classes, church council meetings, committee meetings and other organizational meetings.
Each issue includes a user guide with a synopsis of each segment and discussion questions. MOSAIC is issued quarterly. Annual subscriptions are available through the ELCA Department for Communication. -- -- --
