CHICAGO (ELCA) -- The Rev. Duane L. Steele, Gladesboro Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hillsville, Va., is a featured speaker this fall for three installments of "The Protestant Hour," a nationally broadcast radio program which can also be heard on the Internet.
Steele can be heard on the Oct. 28, Nov. 25 and Dec. 16 broadcasts of The Protestant Hour on participating radio stations and at www.protestanthour.com on the Web. Each program includes a five-minute interview with Steele.
The Protestant Hour has been broadcast every week for more than 56 years and is currently heard on 140 radio stations and on the Internet. It is produced cooperatively by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), the Episcopal Media Center, the United Methodist Church and the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
Steele, who attended the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg, has served Gladesboro Lutheran Church as pastor for 23 years. For the past five years, he has served as advisor and consultant for the ELCA's Braille-and-tape ministry. The ministry provides church periodicals and educational materials to persons who are visually impaired.
In his first sermon Oct. 28 -- Reformation Sunday for Protestants -- Steele notes: "The absolute truth which liberated Luther, and which liberates all who believe it, is that Jesus Christ is Lord. This ultimate and awesome reality doesn't keep us from the fires and trials of our life-journey. It strengthens us and carries us safely through and beyond them."
The Protestant Hour will also feature new music in its program beginning this month. After many years of using theme music based on Martin Luther's hymn "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God," the program will debut a more contemporary theme based on the "Doxology," a song of praise used by many Protestant denominations. Several other new pieces of background music will also be used throughout the program to make the presentation more compelling and appealing, according to Peter Wallace, executive producer. The new music was composed and produced exclusively for The Protestant Hour, Inc., by Jim Ellis Music Productions of Atlanta. -- -- -- Editors: A list of radio stations that carry The Protestant Hour is available at www.protestanthour.com on the Web.
