CHICAGO (ELCA) -- The Rev. Barbara K. Lundblad, associate professor of preaching at Union Theological Seminary, New York, returns as speaker for three installments of "Day 1," formerly known as "The Protestant Hour," a nationally broadcast radio program also accessible via streaming audio on the Web.
Lundblad, a pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), can be heard on the Jan. 12, Feb. 16 and March 23 broadcasts of "Day 1" on more than 150 participating radio stations and at http:// www.day1.net on the Web. Each program includes a five-minute interview with her.
Lundblad's first sermon in the series deals with the baptism of Jesus. "From the day he saw the heavens torn apart, Jesus began tearing apart the pictures of who Messiah was supposed to be . . . tearing apart the social fabric that separated rich from poor, breaking through hardness of heart to bring forth compassion, breaking through rituals that had grown rigid or routine, tearing apart the chains that bound some of the demons' power, tearing apart the chains that bound some in the demons' power, tearing apart the notions of what it means to be God's beloved Son," she said.
Lundblad spent 16 years as a parish pastor in New York City and served as campus pastor at Lehman College, Bronx, N.Y., and New York University, New York. She taught preaching at Yale Divinity School, New Haven, Conn.; Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, N.J.; Hebrew Union College, New York; and in the Doctor of Ministries Program of the Association of Chicago Theological Schools, Chicago. Lundblad has a degree in English from Augustana College, an ELCA higher education institution in Rock Island, Ill., and a master of divinity degree from Yale Divinity School.
She has authored several books, including "Transforming the Stone: Preaching through Resistance to Change," and most recently, "Marking Time: Preaching at the Rivers Edge."
"Day 1" has been broadcast as "The Protestant Hour" every week since 1945, winning numerous awards in the process, including the George Foster Peabody Award for broadcast excellence. It is produced cooperatively by the ELCA, the Episcopal Media Center, the United Methodist Church, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), and the United Church of Christ. A version is also broadcast Sunday mornings on the Hallmark Channel's "America at Worship" series.
