ELCA Council Elects Members to Boards, Committees

CHICAGO (ELCA) -- The Church Council of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) elected clergy and lay people to fill vacancies on boards, steering and advisory committees of the church when it met here April 4-6.
The Church Council is the ELCA's board of directors and serves as the legislative authority of the church between churchwide assemblies. Assemblies are held every other year; the next is Aug. 11-17, in Milwaukee.
The council elects clergy and lay people to fill new and unexpired terms on boards, steering committees and certain advisory committees of the ELCA. It also affirms certain positions recommended by commissions.
The council elected:
+ Kent Burgess, King of Glory Lutheran Church, Billings, Mont., to the board of the ELCA Division for Church in Society
+ the Rev. Cathy E. Rosenholtz, Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Jamaica, N.Y.; Kathryn M. Lohre, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Pine Island, Minn., and Jay McDivitt, King of Glory Lutheran Church, Loveland, Colo., to the Steering Committee of the ELCA Commission for Women
+ the Rev. Larry J. Jorgenson, Amazing Grace Lutheran Church, Anchorage, Alaska, and the Rev. Beth Marie Warpmaeker, Christ the King Lutheran Church, Houston, to the Steering Committee of the ELCA Commission for Multicultural Ministries
+ the Rev. Richard N. Stewart, Christ's Lutheran Church, Oreland, Pa.; Kathleen B. Lemmerbrock, St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Bowling Green, Ohio; and Christopher Warmanen, Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Chicago, to the Advisory Committee of the ELCA Department for Communication
+ the Rev. Margaret A. Krych, St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Springfield, Pa., to the board of Augsburg Fortress, publishing house of the ELCA
The council ratified appointments made by ethnic associations of the church to the Commission for Multicultural Ministries. Those appointed were the Rev. Rosemary Sanchez, Cristo Rey Lutheran Church, El Paso, Texas; Leila Amro, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, St. Charles, Ill.; Eleanore H. Johnson, Lutheran Church of the Wilderness, Bowler, Wis.; Justin Solimon, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Albuquerque, N.M.; Tony Clemente, Trinity Lutheran Church, Brooklyn, N.Y.; and Joseph Husary, St. Peter Lutheran Church, San Leandro, Calif.
Appointed to the Advisory Committee of the ELCA Department for Human Resources were Susan Tolle, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Thousand Oaks, Calif.; Mark Bergstedt, Grace Lutheran Church, Westerville, Ohio; and Alfred V. Sagar, Ascension Lutheran Church, Jackson, Miss.
In addition, the council transmitted to the 2003 Churchwide Assembly a slate of names for the ELCA churchwide nominating committee.
