CHICAGO (ELCA) -- The Church Council of the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) elected Kaanaeli Mukundi of
Chicago to fill a vacancy on the board of the ELCA Division for
Church in Society (DCS).
The Church Council is the ELCA's board of directors and
serves as the legislative authority of the church between
churchwide assemblies. The council met here Nov. 11-15.
Assemblies are held every other year; the next is Aug. 8-14,
2005, in Orlando, Fla.
The council elects clergy and lay individuals to fill
unexpired terms on boards, steering committees and certain
advisory committees of the ELCA. It also affirms certain
positions recommended by commissions.
Makundi succeeds Heather L. Feltman, who resigned from the
board this past summer. Feltman now serves as director for ELCA
Domestic Disaster Response and Lutheran Disaster Response -- a
ministry of the ELCA and Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
