CHICAGO (ELCA) -- During its meeting here Oct. 20-23, the
executive board of Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in
America (ELCA) appointed Linda Post Bushkofsky to serve another
four-year term as executive director of Women of the ELCA
beginning Aug. 1, 2006.
The Rev. Charles S. Miller, executive for administration,
ELCA Office of the Presiding Bishop, made the announcement to
ELCA churchwide staff on Oct. 24.
Women of the ELCA, the women's organization of the church,
is a separately incorporated program unit of the ELCA churchwide
organization.
"We've welcomed her back again for another four years, and
I'm excited about it," said Carmen K. Richards, Hope, N.D.,
president of Women of the ELCA.
"She's just a big positive for us" and a "Godsend to this
organization. Linda is not just an employee of the organization
but a real friend of the organization. She goes out, and the
women love her," said Richards. Bushkofsky is "a connection
between churchwide staff in Chicago and the women in the pews,"
she said.

Services
The Rev. Mark S. Hanson, presiding bishop of the ELCA,
appointed Kristi S. Bangert to serve as interim executive
director for ELCA Communication Services effective Nov. 18.
Bangert served as ELCA director for marketing and
interpretation since 1997. She facilitates the strategic
planning process for Communication Services and is a member of
the American Marketing Association.
The Rev. Eric C. Shafer is concluding his service as
director of the former ELCA Department for Communication
following the November meeting of the ELCA Church Council, the
church's board of directors and legislative authority between

The ELCA churchwide organization is in a process of
restructuring its work in accordance with "Faithful, Yet
Changing: Design for Mission through the Churchwide Organization
of the ELCA," approved by the 2005 ELCA Churchwide Assembly this
past summer. The reorganization -- which includes new program
units, offices and service units, like the ELCA Communication
Services -- is expected to be completed by the start of the
fiscal year, Feb. 1, 2006.
