Associated Church Press Awards Top Honors to Women of the ELCA E-Zine

CHICAGO (ELCA) -- The Associated Church Press (ACP) named
"Cafe --Stirring the Spirit Within," the online e-zine of Women
of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), a top
winner in its awards competition for work done in 2007. "Cafe"
was named "Best in Class" in ACP's independent Web site or e-zine
category.
The awards were presented April 22 at the ACP's annual
convention in Westlake, Texas. The ACP is an organization of
communication professionals in the Christian community. The ACP,
founded in 1916, is the oldest religious press association in
North America.
Edited by Elizabeth McBride, Deborah Bogaert and Terri
Lackey, Cafe "provides high quality product for its audience,"
wrote Diane Bugeja, judge, who is a lecturer in the School of
Journalism and Communication, Iowa State University, Ames.
"The magazine writing style is top notch and provides an
intimate yet professional voice. The journalists use relevant and
quality research and sources to create articles and podcasts that
are meaningful to all women, no matter their religious beliefs or
associations," Bugeja wrote.
In addition the ACP gave awards of excellence to The
Lutheran, the magazine of the ELCA, and to Lutheran Woman Today,
the magazine of Women of the ELCA.
Awards of excellence are given to the top entries in each
ACP awards category. Two awards of excellence went to The
Lutheran:
+ Convention or Meeting Coverage, Magazine: "Assembly Marks
ELCA at 20," by staff, September issue.
+ Theological Reflection (Short Format): "The Annunciation
Reconsidered" by Debra K. Farrington, March issue.
The Lutheran won three awards of merit (second place) and
five honorable mentions in various categories.
Lutheran Woman Today won an award of excellence in the Bible
Resource category for "Blessed to Follow: The Beatitudes as a
Compass for Discipleship," by Dr. Martha E. Stortz, which
appeared in the September-December issue. The magazine
also received two awards of merit and an honorable mention in
other categories.
The ELCA News Service won an award of merit for a news story
in the News Service/Newsletter/Web site category.
