MINNEAPOLIS (ELCA) -- Voting members of the 2009 Churchwide Assembly
of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) elected lay leaders
and clergy to serve on the ELCA Church Council, churchwide committees and
boards.
The churchwide assembly, the chief legislative authority of the
ELCA, met here Aug. 17-23 at the Minneapolis Convention Center. About
2,000 people participated, including 1,045 ELCA voting members. The
theme for the biennial assembly was "God's work. Our hands."
The ELCA Nominating Committee determines nominees for the voting
members. Most elected will serve six-year terms. Election results are:
