Dietrich Bonhoeffer was born Feb. 4, 1906, in Breslau (now
Wroclaw, Poland). Bonhoeffer, a Lutheran pastor and theologian,
took part in the plots planned to assassinate Adolph Hitler. He
was arrested, imprisoned and eventually hanged at Flossenbuerg,
Germany, on April 9, 1945 -- three weeks before the liberation of
the city.
The Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) will air "Bonhoeffer" on
Feb. 6 as part of the international observance of the 100th
anniversary of Bonhoeffer's birth. "Bonhoeffer" is an award-
winning feature length documentary produced in 2003 by director
Martin Doblmeier. Broadcast times may vary among public
television stations.
Several other events are also planned as part of the centennial
celebration:
+ "Grace Matters," the radio ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran
Church in America, included an interview with Doblmeier in its
Jan. 22 program, "Watch Your Feet!"
+ "Speaking of Faith," airing on public radio stations during the
first week of February, will feature an interview with Doblmeier.
+ Special screenings of the documentary (Admission may be
charged; times are local; discussion including Doblmeier follows
each.)
