The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) Youth Ministry
Network will host Extravaganza 2006, Feb. 2-6 at the Hyatt Hotel
in Phoenix. The network is an organization committed to
strengthening and empowering adults who work with young people in
congregations of the ELCA. "Turned" is the theme of the 10th
annual event. Workshops, "intensive care" sessions, speeches,
music and worship distinguish the Extravaganza. Each keynote
address will be given twice to allow for smaller audiences and
greater interaction.
Speakers will include Dr. Leonard Sweet, professor of evangelism,
Drew Theological School, Madison, N.J.; the Rev. Kenda Creasy
Dean, assistant professor of youth, church and culture in the
field of practical theology and Christian education, Princeton
Theological Seminary, Princeton, N.J.; Dr. Rodger Y. Nishioka,
associate professor of Christian education, Columbia Theological
Seminary, Decatur, Ga.; the Rev. Roland D. Martinson, professor
of children, youth and family ministry, Luther Seminary, St.
Paul, Minn.; and Michael Pritchard, humorist and motivational
speaker, San Francisco. Dr. Margie Fiedler, regional gift
planner, ELCA Mission Investment Fund, Spokane, Wash., will lead
worship. The Extravaganza will feature the music of Rachel Kurtz
and Celia Whitler.
