The Discovery Times cable television channel plans to air "The
Rapture" several times beginning Jan. 31 at 8 p.m. Eastern Time.
For the program, producers interviewed the Rev. Barbara R.
Rossing, professor of New Testament, Lutheran School of Theology
at Chicago, and author of "The Rapture Exposed: The Message of
Hope in the Book of Revelation."

The program description reads: "Explore the growing religious
belief in the rapture, the taking up of the saved into heaven
before the end of the world. Once only a belief of Evangelicals,
the rapture has spread beyond the Christian community into the
secular world."

In her book, Rossing called the rapture a "destructive racket."
She wrote, "There is no rapture in the story of Revelation, no
snatching of people off the earth up to heaven. Look at it this
way: it is God who is raptured down to earth to take up residence
and dwell with us -- a rapture in reverse."
