Thrivent Financial for Lutherans committed $21.7 million to
Habitat for Humanity International in an effort to build 312
homes across the United States in 2006, said a Thrivent Financial
news release. Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity makes
the Minneapolis-based Thrivent Financial the single largest ally
of Habitat, Americus, Ga., in its mission to eliminate
substandard housing and rebuild communities.

It will cost nearly $31 million to build 312 homes in more than
200 communities in 43 states and the District of Columbia.
Thrivent Financial is funding $21.7 million, or 70 percent.
Habitat affiliates raise $6.2 million, or 20 percent. Thrivent
chapters raise $3.1 million, or 10 percent. These homes will be
in addition to the 5,000 homes Habitat affiliates build annually
in the United States.

Thrivent Financial has pledged $105 million over four years to
build homes in the United States. It also takes volunteers
around the world with the goal of building 200 homes overseas
each year.
