ELCA, PCUSA form Christian publishing partnership

ELCA, PCUSA form Christian publishing partnership

February 8, 2006

by John R. Brooks, ELCA News Service

Augsburg Fortress, the publishing ministry of the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), and the Congregational
Ministries Publishing program of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
(PCUSA) have entered into a partnership in Christian publishing.
Together the two publishers will develop a new lifelong faith
formation program for congregations.

The new program, "Akaloo," is intended to respond to a need to
support faith journeys of members of all ages with a single
program. Akaloo is inspired by the Greek verb "to
follow"(akolouthein). The partnership between the ELCA and PCUSA
will help bring this new program to the churches in August.

"This is a timely opportunity for both denominations to help our
members grow as disciples of Jesus Christ," said Bill Huff,
publisher, congregational life and learning, Augsburg Fortress,
Minneapolis. "Our churches are calling for material that is true
to their identities and helps connect people of all ages and
supports lifelong discipleship. Akaloo will redefine
congregational learning. It challenges us to think about
discipling in a new way -- through spontaneity, innovation,
intentionality and shared direction. Akaloo is about the joy of
following Jesus."
