Online registration opened this week for the Evangelical Lutheran
Church in America's 2006 Global Mission Event (GME), July 27-30
at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, said Anne Basye,
associate director for global resource, ELCA Global Mission.
The theme for this year's GME is "Sent by God's Grace for the
Sake of the World." Participants will interact with ELCA
missionaries, international church leaders and ELCA members from
throughout the church, in plenary sessions and in workshop
sessions known as the "Global University." Plenary presenters
will include the Rev. Mark S. Hanson, ELCA presiding bishop,
Chicago; the Most Rev. Frank T. Griswold, presiding bishop of the
Episcopal Church, New York; He Qi, contemporary Chinese Christian
artist, Nanjing; and the Al-Raja (Hope) Folkloric Dance Troupe,
Ramallah, West Bank.
In addition to the Amherst GME, the ELCA Global Mission team will
facilitate the International Guest Program to be held in
conjunction with the ELCA Youth Gathering in San Antonio the
first two weeks in July.
