Webcast of 8th Annual Four Chaplains Service on Feb. 19

February 14, 2006

by Frank Imhoff, ELCA News Service

St. Mark by the Sea Lutheran Church, Palm Coast, Fla., will be
the site of the 8th Annual Four Chaplains Service on Feb. 19.
The ELCA congregation co-sponsors the event with the American
Legion Post #115 of Flagler County, Fla. The program will be
broadcast over the Internet at 7 p.m. EST through The Jukebox of
Flagler -- an online radio station. "The Internet broadcast will
allow us to reach those veterans who are homebound or who now
reside in a nursing home or assisted living facility," said the
Rev. Thomas A. Bingol, St. Mark by the Sea Lutheran Church. He
said Florida Veterans Homes, The Seafarer's House, Lutheran Homes
of South Carolina and North Carolina, and Lutheran Theological
Southern Seminary, Columbia, S.C., plan presentations of the
webcast. "The service is being made available through the U.S.
Navy Web Services for all Fleet and Force Chaplains, and the Air
Force has agreed to provide a link through the Air Force
Chaplains Services Resource Board," Bingol added.

The Four Chaplains Service commemorates the lives of four
chaplains who served aboard the USAT Dorchester during World War
II. A torpedo struck the ship Feb. 3, 1943, and the chaplains
sacrificed their life vests and ultimately their lives while
ministering to the sick and dying as the ship sank.
