February 28, 2006

by Frank Imhoff, ELCA News Service

The ELCA Board of Pensions encourages seminarians and other
church leaders to participate in the "Here I Step" walking
program during the 2006 Lenten season. By walking two miles a
day during the 40 days of Lent participants will journey the 80
miles from Jesus' hometown of Nazareth to Jerusalem. Staff of
the ELCA Northwestern Pennsylvania Synod received the first
Healthy Leaders Enhance Lives Award for creating the Here I Step
walking program being made available through the ELCA Board of
Pensions.

"Taking the Here I Step challenge is a great way to continue your
journey to wellness while nurturing your relationship with God,"
said Tammy L. Devine, registered nurse, diaconal minister and
wellness coordinator, ELCA Board of Pensions, Minneapolis. The
Board provides a number of tools related to the Here I Step
campaign on its Web site:
+ Lenten calendar -- with or without wellness tips
+ Poster
+ Activity log
+ Tips for success
+ Downloadable sketch of Martin Luther walking
