Women of the ELCA schedules two cross-cultural immersion retreats

Women of the ELCA, the women's organization of the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), is planning two retreats this
summer to immerse participants in two U.S. cultures as part of
its "Today's Dream: Tomorrow's Reality" anti-racism education
ministry. The first retreat with women of the Appalachian
Mountains will be Aug. 9-13, and the second retreat with women of
the Rocky Boy Chippewa Cree Reservation in Montana will be Sept.
13-17.

"Both immersion experiences provide rich food for thought and
times for reflection," said Inez Torres Davis, associate for
programs, Women of the ELCA. Davis develops and coordinates
program resources and learning opportunities for participants in
Women of the ELCA in the areas of anti-racism, cross-cultural
awareness and commercial sexual exploitation.

"Finding a way to stretch our own perceptions and understanding
of the world around us is a rare gift. Women of the ELCA makes
such a gift possible to those women who avail themselves of the
opportunity to participate in our cross-cultural immersions,"
Davis said. "The immersion experiences allow women to look at
our differences and consider how these differences can move us to
address the power inequities that exist," she said.
