The Church Council of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
(ELCA) elected leaders to fill vacant positions on the Church
Council, a churchwide committee and a program committee of
the church. The council is the ELCA's board of directors and
serves as the legislative authority of the church between
churchwide assemblies. It met April 1-2 in Chicago.

Judith Tutt-Starr, Los Angeles, was elected to serve on the
Church Council. Tutt-Starr replaces Mary T. Froehling, Torrence,
Calif., who resigned. The Rev. Martin J. Russell, Lincoln, Neb.,
was elected to serve on the churchwide nominating committee, and
the Rev. Michelle L. Olson, Wausa, Neb., was elected to fill a
vacancy on the program committee of ELCA Global Mission.
