ELCA Board of Pensions receives 2006 Minnesota Business Ethics Award

May 11, 2006

The Board of Pensions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in
America (ELCA), Minneapolis, is the recipient of the 2006
Minnesota Business Ethics Award in recognition of its balance
between mission orientation and business process discipline. The
Board of Pensions and Premier Banks were co-recipients of the
2006 mid-sized company (100-500 employees) award. The Minnesota
Business Ethics Award recognizes Minnesota businesses that have
exemplified and promoted ethical conduct for the benefit of the
workplace, marketplace, environment and community.

John G. Kapanke, president, ELCA Board of Pensions, accepted the
award May 4 on behalf of all Board employees and trustees.
"Receiving this award is an honor and tribute to our
organization's service as part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church
in America," Kapanke said. "Being faithful to the well-being of
more than 50,000 people by helping them to lead healthy lives and
achieve financial security, and managing $6 billion in assets
requires high ethical standards at all levels of the
organization. Those we serve deserve nothing less than the
highest integrity, excellence and respect that we can offer
them," he said. The Board of Pensions provides retirement,
health and related benefits and services to enhance the well-
being of those who serve through the ELCA and other faith-based
organizations.

The Minnesota Business Ethics Award was established in 1999 by
the Center for Ethical Business Cultures and the Twin Cities
Chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals. Its
purpose is to raise the standards for business ethics in
Minnesota and to honor those companies that exhibit the highest
standards. The Rotary Clubs of Edina, Minn., and White Bear
Lake, Minn., joined as award sponsors in 2004.
