Wheat Ridge Ministries provided a $40,000 grant to Wartburg
Theological Seminary, Dubuque, Iowa, for development of health
programs in Namibia. The primary goal of the "Wartburg-Namibia
Religions Health Program" is to enhance the effectiveness of
indigenous leaders in Namibia to address disease and health
issues in their communities, according to a Wartburg Seminary
news release.
Wartburg Seminary is one of eight seminaries of the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in America. Wheat Ridge Ministries, Itasca,
Ill., is an independent Lutheran charitable organization that
provides support for new church-related health and hope
ministries.
"We are so thankful that Wheat Ridge Ministries has gifted
Wartburg and the church in Namibia with a wonderful first step
with this grant," said the Rev. Duane H. Larson, Wartburg
Seminary president. "With it we can begin to equip pastoral
leadership better under the promise of the gospel to redress
difficult health and behavior issues. More people, especially
young women, will know lives of dignity. On the systemic level a
database will be begun that will help the church ably to partner
with medical and social service sectors in Namibia to make their
healing efforts more effective."
