Biblical reflections from three pastors and two mission personnel
of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) are featured
in "Hunger for the Word: Lectionary Reflections on Food and
Justice, Year C." Available from Bread for the World, Hunger
for the Word is a resource for pastors, liturgical ministers and
others interested in justice-oriented Bible study and spiritual
growth.
Drawing on insights and stories from pastors, professors and
others active in anti-hunger advocacy, the latest volume provides
weekly justice-oriented biblical reflections on the lectionary
readings for Year C, which begins this December with Advent. It
also includes ideas for children's sermons and appropriate
musical selections related to the day's themes. Authors from
various denominations contributed to this volume. ELCA
contributors are the Rev. Russell L. Meyer, Tampa, Fla.; the Rev.
Marc A. Miller, assistant to the bishop, ELCA Northwestern Ohio
Synod, Toledo; the Rev. Mark L. Nygard, Glenburn, N.D.; and Ed
and Lou Brandt, former ELCA mission personnel in Venezuela.
Three volumes of Hunger for the Word, including earlier books for
Years A and B of the lectionary cycle, are available at
http://www.breadstore.org on the Internet.
