Lutheran Disaster Response reports continued recovery efforts

July 12, 2006

by Katherine R. Hinck*, ELCA News Service

In the Northeast United States, communities continue flood
recovery efforts. Lutheran Disaster Response (LDR), a ministry
of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and Lutheran Church-
Missouri Synod, also reported that several Lutheran congregations
in Maryland and the Washington, D.C., area were affected by the
flooding.

According to a July 11 LDR report, the worst flooding conditions
appear to be in Pennsylvania communities along the Delaware River
and its tributaries. LDR volunteer crews are being assembled in
Bucks and Montgomery Counties. In New Jersey, at least 54 homes
in Stockton were heavily damaged or destroyed, the report said,
and Warren, Hunterdon and Mercer Counties have been federally
declared as disaster areas by the Federal Emergency Management
Agency.
