August 8, 2006

by Katherine R. Hinck*, ELCA News Service

The Board of Pensions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in
America (ELCA) is sponsoring a variety of health initiatives in
the next months, including "Here I Step: A Journey to
Reformation," a six-week walking and wellness campaign, said
Tammy Devine, ELCA Wellness Coordinator. From Sept. 17 to Oct.
29 participants are encouraged to increase physical activity,
decrease caloric intake and live prayerfully. Planning materials
and other tools are available online, she said.

In collaboration with the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn.,
participants can join "Walk to Wellness," a 28-day walking
campaign Oct. 1-28 and track their progress online. Participants
must register for this campaign between Sept.17 and Sept. 30,
Devine added.
