Sara Cutter, a student at Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary,
Columbia, S.C., and a candidate for ordained ministry in the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), is the Lutheran
winner of an annual essay contest sponsored by the National
Workshop on Christian Unity. Cutter presented her essay, "The
Significance of Ecumenical Activity in Congregational Life,"
during the workshop, Jan. 29-Feb. 1, in Washington, D.C., and
participated in a panel discussion with the other three winners
of the essay contest.

"We have been delighted to host this essay contest for a third
year, and Sara's essay was thoughtful and reflective. Sara and
the other contest winners had a wonderful conversation in the
panel discussion at the National Workshop on Christian Unity
which brought stellar comments from the audience," said Dr.
Michael Trice, associate director, ELCA Ecumenical and Inter-
Religious Affairs.

Cutter is an intern at Reformation Lutheran Church, Columbia, and
will return to Southern Seminary in the fall for her final year
of studies. Her home congregation is Epiphany Lutheran Church,
Dayton, Ohio. Southern is one of eight ELCA seminaries.
