Online registration is open for Worship Jubilee 2007, an event
celebrating the renewal of worship in the Evangelical Lutheran
Church in America (ELCA). Taking place Aug. 3-6 at Navy Pier in
Chicago, Worship Jubilee will feature keynote presentations,
worship, workshops and educational opportunities for children.
Pre-Jubilee events will take place Aug. 2-3. They include
visiting some of Chicago's churches for "pilgrimage and prayer"
on April 3.
"Jubilee is an opportunity to celebrate the publication of
Evangelical Lutheran Worship with thousands (of members) from
across the ELCA, experience and be nourished by diverse worship,
stimulating presentations, enjoy Chicago's lakefront and find
refreshment and renewal, and learn practical skills in many areas
of worship planning and leadership," said Scott C. Weidler, ELCA
associate in ministry and associate director for worship and
music. He said the event is for "everyone committed to the
worship life of the church."
Evangelical Lutheran Worship -- the ELCA and Evangelical Lutheran
Church in Canada's (ELCIC) new primary book of worship -- is an
outcome of a project initiated by the ELCA Church Council in 2000
to renew the worship life of the ELCA. The "Renewing Worship"
project invited the 4.85-million-member ELCA and the 182,077
members of the ELCIC to discuss, explore, review and engage new
worship materials. The ELCIC began its participation in Renewing
Worship in 2001. Evangelical Lutheran Worship is published by
Augsburg Fortress Publishers, Minneapolis, the publishing
ministry of the ELCA.
