Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP) will feature several
prominent speakers at its advocacy conference, "For the Peace of
Jerusalem," May 6-8 in Washington, D.C.
The ecumenical conference on peace in the Middle East will focus
on U.S. policy and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Workshop
and plenary sessions will feature church leaders, issue analysts,
policy experts and government officials, including former U.S.
Senator Lincoln D. Chafee (R-R.I.). The opening worship on May 6
will be led by the Rev. Frank T. Griswold, former presiding
bishop of the Episcopal Church; the Rev. Vicken Aykazian,
archbishop of the Armenian Orthodox Church; and the Rev. Denis
Madden, auxiliary bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of
Baltimore.
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is a sponsor of the
event and will host a dinner for Lutheran participants May 7. On
May 8 participants will lobby their elected officials on Middle
East peace issues. Online registration for the event is
