The Religion Communicators Council (RCC) honored several
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) communicators April
26 at its annual DeRose-Hinkhouse Memorial Awards program held in
Louisville, Ky. The awards recognize outstanding work in
periodicals, public relations, writing, graphic design, art,
photography, audio and video programs, Internet communication and
multi-media.

A top award, the "Shoestring Award," went to Eric Piisila,
Lutheran World Relief, Baltimore, for "Blessed are the
Peacemakers," a video documentary more than 15 minutes long. The
award is presented to an outstanding project produced with a
small budget. Judges determined winners in each of 10 categories
for the Award of Excellence, the top award, and the Award of
Merit, the runner-up. Awards were presented to staff
representing the ELCA Board of Pensions; ELCA Communication
Services; ELCA Foundation; ELCA Minneapolis Area Synod; ELCA
World Hunger Appeal; ELCA Worship and Liturgical Resources;
Lutheran Social Services of the South Inc., Austin, Texas;
Lutheran Woman Today; Lutheran World Relief; St. Olaf College,
Northfield, Minn.; and Women of the ELCA.

RCC is an international interfaith association of religion
communicators. DeRose-Hinkhouse Memorial Awards are given
annually to active RCC members who demonstrate excellence in
religion communication. The awards are named in honor of the
late Victor DeRose and the late Paul M. Hinkhouse, leading
lithographers in New York and longtime friends of RCC.
