The Rev. Mark S. Hanson, presiding bishop of the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), will participate in an
interfaith convocation and address Lutherans during the "Sowing
Seeds: Growing a Movement" conference, June 9-12 in Washington,
D.C.
"It is clear that we have the capacity to end hunger and reduce
poverty in the world," said Hanson. "The question is, do we have
the will? The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is
committed to being part of the growing global movement to end
hunger now. The Interfaith Convocation on Hunger, June 11, will
give new energy and focus to this movement."
Several pre-conferences are planned for June 8-9, including an
ELCA pre-conference, an ecumenical women's pre-conference and a
seminarians' pre-conference. "Sowing Seeds" will bring together
hundreds of people of faith for workshops and networking
opportunities designed to develop advocacy skills for the
domestic and international fight against poverty. The event will
culminate with a lobby day on June 12, focusing on the 2007 Farm
Bill's impacts on people living in poverty. The ELCA is a
sponsor of "Sowing Seeds" and will offer scholarships for
participants with financial need.
