Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), the
women's organization of the church, opened registration Sept. 4
for its Seventh Triennial Gathering. The gathering will be July
10-13, 2008, at the Salt Palace Convention Center, Salt Lake
City. The featured speaker, Sister Joan Chittister, co-chairs
the Global Peace Initiative of Women, a partner organization of
the United Nations. The Rev. Karen Bockelman will present the
Bible study, and the Rev. Elizabeth Eaton, the Rev. Heidi Neumark
and the Rev. Marysol Diaz will explore various dimensions of the
gathering's "Come to the Waters" theme.
The 16-page registration booklet was mailed to Women of the ELCA
congregations and is online. It includes details about the
"Evening with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir," worship and
"Inspirational Sessions," workshops, optional excursions, housing
and more. Online registration is open at
http://www.womenoftheELCA.org/tg08/registration.html on Women of
the ELCA's Web site. The booklet includes registration and
housing forms that can be submitted by mail or by fax through
June 15, 2008. Registration will be available on site, too.
The gathering follows immediately after Women of the ELCA's
Seventh Triennial Convention, July 8-10, 2008. The convention is
the organization's highest legislative authority. Voting members
will vote on proposed constitutional changes, Women of the ELCA
ministry directions for 2008-2011 and the organization's 2009
budget. The convention will elect Women of the ELCA officers and
executive board. There is no fee for visitors to attend the
convention.
