The Rev. Callon W. Holloway Jr. was re-elected May 30 to a third
six-year term as bishop of the Southern Ohio Synod of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) during the synod's
assembly May 29-31 at Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio.
On the fifth and final ballot for bishop Holloway received 298
votes, and the Rev. James E. Wilson, Lord of Life Lutheran
Church, Worthington, Ohio, received 235 votes. The Rev. William
A. McKee, Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church, Springfield,
Ohio, was a candidate on the fourth ballot for bishop. There
were 48 names on the nominating ballot, and 33 nominees withdrew
before the second ballot.
Holloway, 55, was born in New York City and graduated from
Gettysburg College, Gettysburg, Pa., and the Lutheran School of
Theology at Chicago (LSTC). He holds an honorary doctor of
divinity degree from Wittenberg University. Ordained in 1980, he
served as pastor of Westwood Lutheran Church, Dayton, Ohio, and
as an assistant to the bishop of the ELCA Southern Ohio Synod.
He and his wife Laurene are the parents of two adult sons.
Gettysburg College and Wittenberg University are two of 28
colleges and universities of the ELCA, and LSTC is one of eight
ELCA seminaries.
The ELCA Southern Ohio Synod includes approximately 94,000
members in 232 congregations across 45 counties. The synod
