David J. Lose named president of The Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia

CHICAGO (ELCA) -- The Rev. David J. Lose, Kennett Square, Pa., has been named president of The Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia effective at the start of the 2014 academic year. The seminary is one of eight of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).
"For 150 years, The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia has formed public leaders for a public church," Lose said in a May 14 seminary release. "Its deep confessional roots, ecumenical commitments and responsiveness to its context and constituents have never been needed more than today. I am both humbled by the community's trust and thrilled by the prospect of working alongside great colleagues and students to lead the school into the future God has prepared for us."
Lose succeeds the Rev. Philip D.W. Krey, who is retiring after 15 years of serving as seminary president.
Lose is the Marbury Anderson Associate Professor of Biblical Preaching at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. Luther is also an ELCA seminary. Lose was academic dean at Luther from 2005 to 2008 and assistant professor of homiletics from 2000 to 2005. He also founded the Center for Biblical Teaching there and led the creative team that developed WorkingPreacher.org. Prior to his work at Luther, Lose was pastor of three ELCA congregations -- Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Princeton Junction, N.J.; Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Audubon, N.J.; and Saint John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Summit, N.J.
Lose earned a doctorate in homiletics from Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, N.J., a Master of Sacred Theology degree and a Master of Divinity degree from The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa. He has authored several books, published numerous articles, contributed blogs for Living Lutheran.com and delivered presentations across this church. He is a member of Lutheran World Relief's board of directors and serves on the Day 1 (formerly The Protestant Hour) board. He also has been involved in a variety of community service endeavors.
Lose and his wife, Karin Elizabeth (McNulty), have two children.
