Strong Congregations, Strong Communities

Congregations Growing with Community Needs

Congregations and their members are the lifeblood of our church; when they thrive, the whole church thrives. By focusing on innovation at the local level, we hope to empower congregations to deeply empathize with, integrate and reflect the communities in which they’re located.

Financial Wellness of Congregations

The ELCA’s Resourceful Servants initiative supports the financial wellness of congregations, rostered ministers and seminarians. By reducing financial strain, it helps leaders and communities grow in health and vitality, enabling them to more effectively carry out God’s mission.

Faithful Stewardship of God’s Gifts

We faithfully shepherd the abundant gifts God entrusts to us. Stewardship is more than finances — stewardship is about love. It is how we use our time, talents and treasures to love God and serve our neighbors, both within the church and in the wider world.

Generosity, Service and Accompaniment

The Generosity Project is an intergenerational, household-centered approach to stewardship. It connects generations, creates centers for practicing generosity and equips all ages to address money with faith. Its goal is to form disciples in the lifelong practice of generosity.

Creative Conversations About Money

“God’s work. Our hands.” is both a central tenet of the ELCA and the name of our annual day of service, held each year on a Sunday. It is a chance to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America — one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor.

A Call to Service, Rooted in Baptism

Mission Support — the portion of offerings ELCA congregations share with synods and the churchwide organization — unites us in vital, life-giving work. Guided by the Spirit, we contribute the gifts God entrusts to us, participating in God’s mission to love and serve the world.
