Congregations are communities of faith, sharing Christ’s good news, serving all people, and guiding daily life with grace through worship, service and love.

Congregations and their members are at the heart of the church. When they flourish, the whole church flourishes. Fresh ideas and practices help them reflect, serve and connect with their communities.
Through innovation, we imagine new ways of living in community, justice and love — listening with empathy, acting with compassion and following the Spirit’s call together.
The ELCA’s annual day of service is a blessed opportunity for all our congregations to celebrate who we are as a church, engaging in projects and activities that explore our convictions as Lutherans.
In life’s hardest moments, we lean on God in new ways. Though much is beyond our control, prayer and faith practices steady us. The Spirit guides worship, shapes service, stirs us to proclaim good news and sends us out to seek justice. As we trust, burdens lighten, paths brighten and hope is renewed.
Rooted in a deep Lutheran heritage in education, the ELCA is called to teach the faith, nurture baptismal vocations and work for high-quality education for all. We serve the common good by advocating broad access, supporting public education and empowering people to grow in their gifts.
As Lutherans, we are committed to telling the good news. Evangelism is sharing God’s love in Jesus, inviting others to trust this grace and join God’s work. We celebrate love as pure gift and continue Jesus’ ministry as our calling, shaping lives rooted in faith and service.

Our faith liberates us to embrace each person in their wholeness — questions, complexities, ethnicity, culture and all. The Ministries of Diverse Cultures and Communities team assists the ELCA in becoming more culturally diverse and anti-racist.
Mission Support — offerings shared by ELCA congregations — unites us in God’s work, guided by the Spirit to love and serve the world.
