Equipping Young Leaders of Color for Ministry and Community Impact

Program Description: Young people are already shaping the future of the church. The Horizon Apprenticeship Program equips young leaders of color to grow in their faith, explore their vocational calling, and lead in their communities through hands-on ministry, mentorship, and leadership development. Rooted in faith and lived experience, Horizon creates space for young people from racially and ethnically diverse communities to discern their gifts and step into leadership now.

The Horizon Apprenticeship Program is a year-round model that offers apprenticeships spanning up to nine months, with flexibility around school schedules and seasonal rhythms. The program begins July 5, 2026, and concludes by April 25, 2027. It supports a cohort of approximately 10 to 15 apprentices, ages 16 to 20, who are nominated by ELCA-affiliated congregations, camps, and community-based organizations committed to sustained accompaniment and meaningful ministry engagement.

Apprentices receive stipends, coaching, and structured mentorship while engaging directly in ministry and community leadership within their assigned sites.
